IN MEMORIAM
Milton B. Hood was born on January 15, 1935. He was Raised a Master Mason in Irving Lodge on November 02, 1959. We have been informed that he passed into Heaven on September 28, 2009.
Gilbert “Gil” W. White was born on January 12, 1949. He was made a Master Mason on
March 13, 1992. Brother White accepted the call of his Lord on February 23, 2010.
“I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.”(Psalms 34:4)

LAMAR AWARDS PROGRAM
Irving Masonic Lodge #1218 is pleased to join with other Lodges in the Dallas Area in the Lamar Awards Program on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 6:30 P.M. in the Dallas Scottish Rite Temple. We didn’t vote to participate in this program this year until our February Stated Meeting. Meal tickets and reservation must be arranged must be arranged by March 4 which was to soon to notify everyone in this bulletin. Irving Lodge was happy to elect Miss Hailey Hodgkiss to receive the Mirabeau B. Lamar Award and Medal. Miss Hodgkiss is a 17 year old Senior at Irving High School. She is a recovering cancer patient who is now the President of the Student Council, a member of the National Honor Society and is one of the top ten students academically, in her Senior Class. Irving Lodge will also present Miss Hidgkiss with a $200.00 Scholarship award. Congratulation Hailey !
MONITOR OF THE LODGE
The Monitor of the Lodge that have been backordered have come in. We now have a supply on hand but 4 are due to the Entered Apprentice Masons who have been initiated during the waiting period. The Monitors are loose leaf in a 3 ring binder. The price for these new monitors is $ 14.00 each and may go up in May, 2010. They aren’t nearly as handy as the previous ones. However, the new Monitors have more detail in the instructions, especially in procedures during balloting, receiving honored guests, and etc. If you desire one of the new loose leaf Monitors please contact the Secretary.
THE USUAL NOTICE
We feel we must make the usual notice that dues are past due. Annual Dues are due and payable by December 31 each year for the following year. Please look at your Dues Card and check if the date on it is for the year 2010. If not you should remit the $75.00 dues as soon as possible. Irving Lodge has been having a cash flow problem since the Endowed Memberships are not paying anything.
We also ask the Endowed Members to consider donating the $75.00 which would have been their dues payment if they had not been in the endowment program. As an aside to the dues we would ask every member to consider including the Lodge in their will or other bequeath.

MASONIC TRIVIA
Andrew McNair, a Philadelphia Mason, rang the Liberty Bell in Independence Hall on July 8, 1776 to call the people together to hear the reading of the Declaration of Independence. The bell developed a crack when it was rung for the death of Chief Justice Marshall, a Past Grand Master of Virginia.
Hiram Abiff Boaz was the first Vice – President of Southern Methodist University. He was born on Dec. 18, 1866 in Murray, Ky. and was made a Mason in 1922 before an unusually large crowd. He served as Grand Chaplin of the Grand Lodge of Texas in 1953.
Between 1890 (when it became a state) and 1951, every Governor of Wyoming, except one, was a Mason. The one, Mrs. William A. Ross, was the wife of a Mason and a member of the Eastern Star.
In some Grand Jurisdictions, the Grand Master has the authority to make “a mason at sight” which means the Grand Master can do away with the formalities such as filing a Petition, waiting periods, etc. Some famous people who were made a Mason in that manner were William H. Taft, General George Marshall, and General Douglas MacArthur. They were still required to go through the ceremonies. Lyndon Johnson took the first degree in Masonry on October 30, 1937 but never progressed any further. Also, Sam Rayburn, Speaker of the House for many years, took the first degree on August 7, 1922. He died in 1961 without receiving the second.

Ellen (Rae Goode) now Crane, granddaughter of Harlan & Inez Goode, step-granddaughter of A.H. Trotter grew up as a child of the lodge.

Hi Dean..
I've had some old pictures packed away and just got them out the other day when I realized the lodge had a website. These are from when Granddaddy was Master of the Lodge when the Irving Lodge building was built. I think it was 1947. I scanned them in for the website if you want to use them, I thought a bit of the lodge history might be nice. I really only recognize Granddaddy in the pics and John Brandenburg in the picture in the lodge room.
I also have some newspaper clippings, other memorabilia, pictures, etc. from that time, I don’t know if you have any of them or not. Does the lodge have a lot of that kind of stuff in the records/library?

Birth Announcement
Congratulations to Senior Deacon Mike and Leslynn Jones on the birth of their new baby Boy!
Sebastian Luke Jones was born Thursday, February 18th. He weighed in at a healthy 4lbs and was 16 ½” inches long. Mom and baby are doing great!
