A bit of lodge history

Ellen (Rae Goode) now Crane, granddaughter of Harlan & Inez Goode, step-granddaughter of A.H. Trotter grew up as a child of the lodge.

Hi Dean..
I've had some old pictures packed away and just got them out the other day when I realized the lodge had a website. These are from when Granddaddy was Master of the Lodge when the Irving Lodge building was built. I think it was 1947. I scanned them in for the website if you want to use them, I thought a bit of the lodge history might be nice. I really only recognize Granddaddy in the pics and John Brandenburg in the picture in the lodge room.
I also have some newspaper clippings, other memorabilia, pictures, etc. from that time, I don’t know if you have any of them or not. Does the lodge have a lot of that kind of stuff in the records/library?
Thanks so much.

Many thanks to Ellen, here are those pictures.

Irving Lodge will Honor two groups who are near and dear to the hearts of the members of our lodge. On Saturday, February 13, 2010 we will host a covered dish dinner as we Honor our Masonic Widows and Funeral Committee. It is appropriate that we join these two groups in this Honor Night. As our members pass into the Grand Lodge Above our Funeral Committee braves the sun and heat of summer or the rain and cold of winter in an effort to offer a measure of our loved for his memory and our compassion and love for the widow.

We will enjoy the covered dish dinner at 6:30 P.M. and offer our best regards as we recognize those who have participated in a Masonic Funeral during the past year. Our Masonic Widows will be offered a small token of our love and concern during their lonely years. The Lodge will provide the meat, bread, and drinks. All others are asked to bring their favorite salad, vegetable or dessert. Entertainment will follow the dinner and recognitions.

On the morning of February 13, 2010, the Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of Texas will conduct a seminar on the proper duties and procedures for Masonic Lodge Secretaries. The Seminar will begin at 9:00 A.M. in Oak Cliff Lodge #705 at 1309 Newport Ave., Dallas, Texas. All Master Masons who are interested in pursuing the mystery of the Secretary’s desk and office should make a note of this date.

Brethren, don’t overlook the degree work scheduled for February. If you are wanting to brush up on the work or start a study toward conferring degrees, here are two good times to begin. There is always the opportunity also to enjoy the fellowship, renew old friendships and establish new ones. Attend on the two Mondays of February 15 and 22, 2010.

At the exercise class I was told to wear loose-fitting clothing. If I Had loose-fitting clothing, I wouldn’t have signed up in the first place.

I wonder if other dogs think poodles are members of a weird religious cult.

Life expectancy would grow by leaps and bounds if green vegetables smelled as good as bacon.

Two young boys were arguing about their fathers. One little boy said, “Your daddy is a creep.” The second little boy said, “Your daddy is a creep too.” The third little boy, not wanting his daddy to be left out, said, “My daddy is a creep too.”

A police recruit was asked, “What would you do if you had to arrest you own mother?” He answered, “I would call for backup.”

Teacher: Glenn, how do you spell ‘Crocodile?’ Glenn: ‘K-R-O-K-A-D-I-A-L’
Teacher: ‘No that’s wrong!’ Glenn: ‘Maybe it’s wrong, but you asked me how I spell it.’

Teacher: ‘Mary, name me one important thing that we have today that we didn’t have 10 years ago.’
Mary: ‘Me.’
