Brother James B. Scott was born on June 20, 1921. He was made a Mason in Sunflower Lodge #86, in Wichita, Kansas on January 16, 1953. He Affiliated with Irving Lodge #1218 on March 9, 1993. Brother Scott was presented with the Grand Lodge 50 Year Masonic Service Award on January 16, 2003. He Passed into the arm of his Savior on September 20, 2010.

“Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.” (Psalm 62:1)

This bulletin is dedicated to the memory of Brother James B. Scott. May God ease the hearts of his loved ones in their sorrow.

Irving Lodge is pleased to announce the presentation of Masonic Service Awards at a covered dish dinner on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 6:30 P.M. as we honor those who are due the 65, 60, & 50 Year Awards.

Brother Bill Schultz is due for his 65 Year Award. 60 Year Awards will be presented to Brother Guy H. Hudson and Past Master Phillip D. Baker. Irving Lodge will also present the 50 Year Award to the following Brothers: Richard C. Mahan, William C. Busbee, John C. Vincent, Wendell D. Jones, and W. O. “Bill” Giddens. Other Brothers who are due the award but could not attend are Luther Foshee, Orban M. McCoy, Joe Miliara, Royce H. Kirby, and Joel Blackwell .

The covered dish dinner will be served at 6:30 P.M. with the ceremonies to follow. The Lodge will provide the meat, drinks and bread. All other are invited to bring their favorite vegetable, salad or dessert. We honor these Service Award Brethren and wish them well for the future years.

An always enjoyable evening is had when the Masters, Wardens and Secretaries Assoc. of the Dallas and Ft. Worth Districts join together to meet, eat, and enjoy an evening fellowship.

This is the meeting that was once the outstanding event held at the Masonic Home and School of Texas in Ft. Worth. At the closing of the Home & School the joint meetings were moved to the Texas Masonic Retirement Center in Arlington. A good meeting to attend for Masonic education too.

The Masonic Laws by which the masons and lodges operate are constantly being adjusted to meet the current needs of the Fraternity. The proposed changes to be considered at the Grand Lodge Convocation in December, 2010 will be reviewed at a meeting of the Masters Wardens and Secretaries Association to be held at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. A Reviewer will discuss each of the 23 proposed changes and attempt to explain the intent of the Resolutions. Some are duplications and some are minor adjustments. But some are important law changes which should be the concern of every mason in Texas. This is a good time to become familiar with the proposed changes and then plan to attend Grand Lodge to find out the how they are rejected, amended or accepted.

Once a year we come to the time in a year when Dues to Irving Lodge #1218 are due and payable. That time is here. Dues in Irving Lodge are $75.00 per year and are due by the last day of December for the ensuing year. In plain words, this means you need to pay your dues for the year 2011 by December 31, 2010. Again, we are receiving no money from the Endowed Memberships. Ordinarily, our 219 Endowed Memberships would pay about half of our yearly income. That loss puts Irving Lodge in a severe cash flow condition again this year. The Lodge is therefore asking each of the Endowed Members to please consider paying their regular dues of $75.00. Better yet, come to lodge and bring that payment with you. We’ll be happy to greet you and shake your hand, and give you a big “THANK YOU” for the $75.00.

John Adams: “In my many years I have come to a conclusion that one useless man is a shame, two is a law firm and three or more is a congress.”

Mark Twain: “If you don’t read the newspaper you are uninformed, if you do read the newspaper you are misinformed.”

Mark Twain: “Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But then I repeat myself.”

Unknown: “Talk is cheap….except when Congress does it.”

Periccles (430 B.C.): “Just because you do not take an interest in politics doesn’t mean politics won’t take an interest in you !”

Mark Twain: “The difference between a tax man and a taxidermist is that the taxidermist leaves the shin.
