IN MEMORIAM

Joe L. Pierce was born January 10, 1934. He was Raised a Master Mason in Irving Lodge on January 3, 1977. He received a 25 Year Pin on March 12, 2002. Brother Pierce entered the door of the Celestial Lodge Above on December 03, 2012.

“God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be.
So he put His arms around you, and whispered ‘Come with Me’.”
(excerpt from a poem “Come with Me”).

We dedicate this bulletin to Joe L. Pierce. May God’s special Angels watch over his loved ones during this time of sorrow and loss.

CHRISTMAS CHEER

If you didn’t get the message in last month’s Bulletin about Irving Lodge’s Christmas Party, you may miss it.   But here it is again.  On Saturday evening, December 15, 2012 at 6:30 P.M. Irving Lodge will Celebrate the Annual Christmas Party with a covered dish dinner, an evening of enjoyment with the Shady Grove Ramblers, and an expected visit with Santa Claus.  How much more could you ask for?  Put together  your favorite dish of salad, vegetable or dessert, invite the neighbors and friends.  The Lodge will provide the meat, drinks and bread.  The only things missing will be those who miss this annual event.

THE REASON FOR THE SEASON

FOR THOSE OF CHRISTIAN FAITH, WE WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS.  FOR THOSE OF JEWISH FAITH, WE WISH YOU A HAPPY HANUKKAH.  FOR EVERYONE, WE WOULD SAY TO YOU, HAVE A JOYOUS AND HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON.  WE WISH FOR YOU AND ALL, A HEALTHY AND HAPPY LIFE IN THE YEAR OF 2013.

DUES ARE DUE

Every year the Annual Dues in Texas Masonic Lodges become due and payable by December 31 for the next year.  To apply that to the current conditions, your dues for the year 2013 are now due by December 31, 2012. Endowed, Life and 50 Year Members are exempt from the payment of dues.  All others should look at you dues card. If it states your dues have been paid to December 31, 2012, then you should make a payment to your lodge this December month.  Dues in Irving Lodge #1218 are $100 per year.  We would thank those who have already remitted the 2013 year’s dues.  We also send a special message of thanks and appreciation to those who have made donations during this, and former years.

A LESSON OF FAITH

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island.  He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him, and every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming.  Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements, and to store his few possessions.

Then, one day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut was in flames, the smoke  rolling up to the sky.  The worst thing had happened; everything was lost!  He was stunned with
Grief and anger. “God how could you do this to me!” he cried.

Early the next day, however, he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island.  It had come to rescue him. “How did you know I was here?” asked the weary man of his rescuers.
“We saw your smoke signal,” they replied.

(JUST REMEMBER, THE NEXT TIME YOUR LITTLE HUT IS BURNING TO THE GROUND --- IT
MAY JUST BE THE SMOKE SIGNAL THAT SUMMONS THE GRACE OF GOD.)

JUST CHUCKLE A LITTLE !

Written instructions of purchased products

On a Korean kitchen knife:  Keep out of children. (Something must have gotten lost in the translation)

On a string of Christmas Lights:  For indoor and outdoor use only. (As opposed to what, outer space ?)

On a food processor:  Not to be used for the other use. (Now I’m curious)

On an American Airlines packer of nuts: Instructions: Open packet, eat nuts. (Somebody got paid big bucks to writer this one)

On a Swedish chain saw: Do not attempt to stop chain with your hands: (Raise your other hand if you’ve tried this)

Now is the time to remit your dues and get your card without the cost to the lodge for notices.

SOME THINGS ABOUT GETTING OLDER

Your years of paying for health insurance is finally paying off.

Kidnappers are not very interested in you.

If you have never smoked, you can start now and it won’t have time to hurt you.

Your secrets are safe with your friends because they can’t remember them either.

The things you buy now won’t wear out.

You don’t need the roof shingles with a 30 year warranty.

There is no need to spend money for a psychic to see your future.

There is nothing left to learn the hard way.

You may never have to vacuum under the bed again.

In a hostage situation, you are likely to be released first.

Your joints are more accurate than the National Weather Service.

JUST A LITTLE HUMOR

(Just about husbands and wives)

Just think, if it wasn’t for marriage, men would go through life thinking they had no faults at all.

If you want your wife to listen and pay strict attention to every word you say --- talk in your sleep.

At a party, one woman said to another, “Aren’t you wearing you wedding ring on the wrong finger?
The other woman answers, “Yes I am.  I married the wrong man.”

You have two choices in life; stay single and be miserable, or get married and wish you were dead.

When a woman steals your husband, there is no better revenge than to let her keep him.

First guy says, “My wife’s an angel !”  Second guy remarks, “you’re lucky, mine’s still alive.”

Marriage is the triumph of imagination over intelligence

A little boy asked his father, ”How much does it cost to get married?”
Dad’s reply, “I don’t know son, I’m still paying.”

KNOW YOUR WORSHIPFUL MASTER

Each year Irving Lodge selects and installs a new Worshipful Master.  If you are able to attend lodge regularly, you will have had a chance to meet the installed officers.  If you don’t know him, let me introduce to you the current Worshipful Master of Irving Lodge #1218 for the Masonic Year 2012-’13,
Nabeel (Bill) Tarek Adra.  Bill was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1956.  He moved to Texas in 1974. As a young man he joined Irving DeMolay Chapter.  He is VP of Operations for Adra Electric Products, Inc.
In September, 2006 Brother Bill Adra Petitioned Irving Masonic Lodge and was Raised a Master Mason on the 15th day of January, 2007.  He has served as the Senior Steward, Junior Deacon, Senior Deacon, Senior Warden and was installed as Worshipful Master on June 30, 2012. Worshipful Brother Bill attended the Grand Lodge Warden’s Retreat and Leadership Training Course in August, 2011 to help prepare himself for this office of leadership.  If you already know your Worshipful Master, shake his hand and let him know you support him.  If you haven’t met him yet, come to lodge and get acquainted, or go to lunch with him and get to know your leader.

HONOR PAST MASTERS

Another Honor Night with a covered dish dinner.  On September 15, 2012 Irving Lodge will honor our Past Masters for their many years of service. Past Masters of a Masonic Lodge are men who have
been the life’s blood of a lodge for several years.  Some retire to the sideline and some remain active in the work of the lodge.  Yet, all have worked in the quarries of Freemasonry. They are our fathers in masonry and have handed down to the current generation the foundation for pleasant and happy hours in masonic labor.  Please join us as we honor this distinguished group of Masonic Workers.

A covered dish dinner will be enjoyed at 6:30 P.M. with the honorarium to follow. This Honor Night is open to all friends of masonry. Bring your friends and neighbors. The lodge will provide meat, drinks and bread.  All others are asked to bring a vegetable, salad, or dessert.

MWSA MEETINGS

The Masters, Wardens and Secretaries Assoc. meets on the 4th Wednesday each month. A meal will be served at 6:30 P.M.  The September meeting will be on Wednesday the 26th at the Scottish Rite Hospital. At this meeting Grand Master Jim Brumit will present the Dallas Police Officer of the Month.  Attendance is very educational at the MWSA meetings, especially for those who aspire to be a lodge officer.

HUMOR HEARD OR READ

*If a man yells “YOU LIE!” in a room full of politicians, how do they know who he’s talking to?

*Age does not diminish the extreme disappointment of having a scoop of ice cream fall off the cone.

*The Cardiologist’s diet: “If it tastes good, spit it out!”

*How did we put man on the moon before we figured out how to put wheels on luggage?

For Golfers: An elderly golfer was complaining to his wife that his eyesight had gotten so bad he couldn’t see where his ball went after he hit it.  His wife said, “That’s understandable at your age Jack, why don’t you take my brother Scott along.  He’s 85 but his eye sight is perfect and he could watch your ball. The next day jack teed off with Scott looking on. Jack swung, and the ball disappeared down the middle of the fairway. “Do you see it?” asked Jack.  “Yup,” Scott answered.  “Well, where is it?” asked Jack, peering off into the distance. “I forgot,” said Scott.

After putting her grandchildren to bed, a grandmother changed into old slacks and a droopy blouse and proceeded to wash her hair.  As she heard the children getting more and more rambunctious, her patience grew thin.  At last she threw a towel around her head and stormed into their room, putting them back in bed with stern warnings. As she left the room, she heard the three year old say with a trembling voice, “Who was THAT?”

IN MEMORIAM

Irving Lodge is blessed with no reported deaths in our membership since our last Stated Meeting.
We had 17 reported deaths of members during the Masonic Year of June 24, 2011 to June 23. 2012.
We also have several members and their families who need our prayers. If you become aware of one in need of a prayer or a visit, please let our Chaplain Jimmy Walters know.   He can be reached by phone on 972-401-1240 and will add someone to the Sick List as reported.

KEEP IN TOUCH

Worshipful Master Bill Adra has provided a beautiful calendar which lists projected events during his Masonic Year.   We try, but to always keep our bulletin readers well informed in advance is
very difficult.  The calendars are a means to keep you in touch. If you got one, use it to keep abreast of upcoming events. If you didn’t get a calendar, check with the lodge for one or mark your calendar with the following list of tentative scheduled important events: Degrees are usually on Monday nights.  But
due to the number of degrees we are scheduling and,  the short number of Mondays due to Labor Day, we have scheduled two E. A. Degrees on Tuesdays also.

Irving Lodge is always pleased to recognize and honor our Masonic Widows.  A night has been set aside on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 6:30 P.M. when a covered dish dinner will be shared as we honor two special groups.  It is always a special night as we honor our Masonic Widows.   Honoring the Funeral Committee at the same time is a natural. The Widows are close to our hearts and the Funeral Committee is so close to our emotions when we lose another friend and brother.  This meeting is open to each and all of our families, friends and those interested in the Masonic Family.  The lodge will provide meat, drinks, and bread.  All others are asked to bring a vegetable, salad, or dessert.

POEM

My Bible:
Though the cover is worn, and the pages are torn, and places bear traces of tears,
Yet more precious than gold, is the Book worn and old, that can shatter and scatter my fears.
When I prayerfully look, in the precious old Book, as my eyes scan the pages I see,
Many tokens of love, from the Father above, who is the nearest and dearest to me.
The old Book is my guide, ‘Tis a friend by my side, it will lighten and brighten my way;
And each promise I find, soothes and gladdens my mind, as I read and heed it today.
(a beautiful poem but the author is unknown)

SMILE A WHILE

Church Signs:

“CHURCH PARKING --- TRESPASSERS WILL BE BAPTISED”

“ADAM BLAMED EVE,  EVE BLAMED THE SNAKE, AND THE SNAKE DIDN’T HAVE A LEG TO STAND ON.”

“YOU ARE NOT TOO BAD TO COME IN. YOU ARE NOT TOO GOOD TO STAY OUT.”

“CAN’T SLEEP?  TRY COUNTING YOUR BLESSINGS”

“HONK IF YOU LOVE JESUS --- TEXT WHILE DRIVING IF YOU WANT TO MEET HIM.”

If you have not met all the officers, come and meet them at a reception  after the installation.

THE TIME IS NOW!  If you do not have a current dues card you don’t have much time to get one. Please check your dues Card.  It should read “Dues paid through 12/31/2012”.   If it lists the date of 12/31/2011 then you are behind on you dues for 2012.  Any member who does not have a paid up dues card by the twenty third (23rd) day of June, will be subject to automatic suspension.
 DON’T DELAY!   PAY TODAY!

WHO SHOULD YOU MARRY?

(Written by kids 7 to 10 years old)

You got to find somebody who like the same stuff you like. If you like sports, she should like it too and keep the chips and dips coming.

No person really decides before they grow up who they’re going to marry.  God decides it all way before, and you get to find out later who you’re stuck with.

You can tell if two people are married based on whether they seem to be yelling at the same kids.

Q. What should people do on a date?
A. Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to know each other.  Even boys have something to say if you listen long enough.

Q. When is it okay to kiss someone?
A.  When they are rich.

Q.  Is it better to be single or married?
A. It’s better for girls to be single but not for boys. Boys need someone to clean up after them.

GRIN AND BEAR IT !

THE HAIRCUT:    One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he asked about a bill, and the barber replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you; I’m doing community service this week.’ The florist was pleased and left the shop. When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a ‘thank  you’ card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.

Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replied, “I cannot accept money from you, I’m doing community service this week. ‘The cop was happy and left the shop. The next morning when the barber went to open up, there was a ‘thank you’ card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.

Then a congressman came in for a haircut, and when he went to pay his bill, the barber again replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you. I’m doing community service this week.’ The Congressman was very happy and left the shop. The next morning, when the barber went to open his shop, there were a dozen Congressmen lined up waiting for a free haircut

We also ask that you remember our sick and their families. Many are in need of your prayers.

DISTRICT DEPUTY GRAND MASTER VISITS

Right Worshipful Steve Gooch, District Deputy Grand Master of Masonic District 14B attends our February Stated Meeting. R:.W:. Brother Gooch is the Personal Representative of M:. W:. Jim Brumit, Grand Master of Masons in Texas. Any time R:. W:. Brother Gooch makes an Official Visit to a Lodge he is accorded all the respect and honors that would be due the Grand Master. Irving Masonic Lodge #1218 is always pleased to welcome our Honored Guest.

HONOR PAST MASTERS

Everybody mark Saturday, February 25 on your calendar for a covered dish dinner at the lodge for a night of honor and fellowship with the Past Masters.

After the dinner, this will also be Portrait Night for any and all Past Masters. We understand that a few others could slip in too.

As usual on covered dish dinners, the Lodge will provide the meat, bread, and drinks. All others are asked to bring a salad, vegetable, or dessert.

DUES ARE DUE

It’s that time of year when the bills come due and the annual dues in the Masonic Lodges in Texas are also due. Irving Lodge voted to increase the amount of our annual dues to $100.00. Lodge dues are payable in advance. This means that your year 2012 dues of $100.00 should be paid by December 31, 2011. But if you haven’t paid those dues yet, not to worry, but do it now. The Lodge will still accept donations and bequests. Better than mailing your dues in, bring the dues to Lodge at Stated Meetings or almost any Monday Night. We look forward to seeing you in the lodge meetings during this coming year. If you would prefer to spend 44 cents to mail your dues, send it to P. O. Box 170397, Irving, Tx. 75017. But we would much rather see you bringing it to lodge on a meeting night.

SMILE A WHILE

“Where is my Sunday Paper?” The irate customer calling the newspaper office loudly demanded. “Madam”, said the newspaper employee, “today is Saturday. The Sunday paper is not delivered until tomorrow, on Sunday.” There was a long pause on the other end of the phone, followed by a ray of recognition as she was heard to mutter, ….. “Well God Bless them, that explains why no one was at church today either.”

Saw a sign that read: “HONK IF YOU LOVE JESUS --- TEXT WHILE DRIVING IF YOU WANT TO MEET HIM.”

WHAT I’VE LEARNED (BY ANDY ROONEY)

I’VE LEARNED:

That having a child fall asleep in your arms is one of the most peaceful feelings in the world.

That being kind is more important than being right.

That I can always pray for someone when I don’t have the strength to help him in some other way.

That sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand.

That love, not time, heals all wounds.

That I wish I could have told my Mom that I love her one more time before she passed away.

That the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself with people smarter than I am.

That life is tough, but I’m tougher.

WHAT WE SHOULD LEARN
* Not to argue with an idiot . He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
* You’re never too old to learn something stupid.
